This morning, in a quiet neighborhood in Tennessee, Gail Kirkland will set out for a run with her German shepherd. The two will cover just over three miles. By the end of the run, they will both be winded and happy. As she walks back inside of her house to towel off, Gail will again be amazed at the way her body is responding.
"Two years ago, my biggest athletic achievement was getting out of bed," says the 59 year-old Business Associate. "I literally could not be on my feet for more than an hour. I was going to the bathroom 30 times a day and had absolutely no energy."
Gail has battled the effects of Crohn's disease for more than 30 years, including very low energy. Twice in the last decade she has been bed-ridden for more than 17 months at a time.
